2024 Season Still On Hold...Central State Storylines

As the 2024 season continues to be in a never ending holding pattern as mother nature tries to figure her mood out, there is plenty for everyone in the central portion of the state to be excited about. Starting on the Northern part of the region, Devils Lake Speedway mixes their classes up a bit by adding Wissota Modifieds on specific dates. The move was reportedly to help assist the Wissota Modified drivers by giving them an alternative location to race at after Greenbush decided to keep the gates closed for the year. Toss in some Wissota Late Model action and you have a very fun place to watch racing each Saturday.

The Jamestown Speedway also sees some interesting storylines going into the 2024 season. There is a big double header weekend for the DRC Street Stock Tour this year (August 11,12) which looks to bring about some stability for the Wissota Street Stocks in the region. With the nearby Dacotah Speedway making the switch to IMCA Stock Cars and dropping the streeters there are a lot of questions and rumblings on what will happen to the class at Jamestown. However, last year saw a strong and consistent turnout of cars at Jamestown and there is cause for belief that it will be consistent again this year. Jamestown also is bringing in the Wingless Sprints for the very first time.

A little bit south is the Tri-County Speedway and it's been an intriguing off season as some questionably decisions have been made with the schedule. The long traditional date of their end of the season special (The Sauerkraut 500) has been moved August 11 and 12. This is a perplexing decision as the track has never really had any competition for the September date or have had to compete to draw cars that weekend. This year they will have to compete with the Jamestown Speedway and Miller Speedway as both will be racing that weekend. The bright side of the storylines though is that there is word of more new legend drivers coming from that general area to help bolster a rather large class already.

Finally, there is Dacotah Speedway, the rather notable storyline of the year is that the board made the decision to drop Wissota Street Stocks and IMCA Stock Cars. Simply put, right, wrong, or otherwise, this has made for a lot of off season chatter. The big questions to be answered and seen is who will make the switch? Who will head to other tracks? And who will hang the helmet up? The transition rules allow for a window of time to use up the Wissota equipment but only the opening night will help give a better idea of what the future holds instore for the class. However, there is a lot of excitement that has built up from the change and a lot of anxiety has been eliminated after the long expected switch has finally been made.
